... and After All That

Don't lose any sleep over reading rhythms. If you see a lot of notes with flags, they will probably be going by rather quickly. If you see a lot of unfilled notes, sit in proper singing position and think 'breath support'.

However -

you must be very willing to make an effort to learn difficult rhythm patterns when they pop up, because unlike pitches, guessing will almost never get you close enough to what is written to qualify you as knowing your part or being a conscientious member. Record that part of rehearsal on your phone and/or record your underappreciated Accompanist playing it correctly and then practice at home.
