Same but DifferentAs noted, there are seven different notes in a major scale (counting both the top and bottom notes as 1).Many songs and choral pieces use only those seven notes - spread out over the range of the human voice, which is about 3 octaves. You can hear a scale being sung by a bass, an alto and a tenor, and a soprano by clicking to the right from top to bottom respectively. Note that each example is in a different octave and has a different timbre (usually pronounced 'tam burr'). Timbre is not theory, it is just a word; so we can tell you that it means a particular attribute of brightness, deepness, or other characteristics of a sound with reference to its pitch, quality, and strength. It is how we can tell the difference between a trumpet and a trombone, even when they are playing the same note; they have a different timbre. . |
