A Word About Practice: MistakesPracticing is hard and it can be a bother trying to work it into an already busy schedule. While we can't help with doing the practicing, perhaps we can help with the idea of practicing.- If we get down to the nitty gritty, practice = mistakes. If there were no mistakes/imperfections there would be no need or reason to practice.
- No one likes others to hear or witness them make mistakes of any type, but especially not while doing something that they love to do, are purportedly good at doing, yet that can sometimes sound like an angel and other times more like a cat that the neighbor stepped on - depending!
- You must allow yourself your mistakes! You must revel in each wrong note and learn from it and allow it to be the path to the correct note.
- You need to be able to concentrate on what you're doing without any worry at all that someone will walk in or hear you in case you miss that high note! They can hear you after you've practiced.
- You must find and claim for yourself a private space and a time during which not only are there no phones, but no other people, even if that means sending family members off to the driving range, the mall or the backyard.
- Treat practicing as a reward, not a chore. What could be better than improving at something that you love to do?
