A Question About Practice: Why?

Chances are good that as an active choir member you are also involved in another committee or two and that you give more than your share (though it's not a competition). Some might wonder, "Practicing will just increase the amount of time I am giving to the church! When is enough enough?"

Don't practice for the church. Don't practice for your Director. Don't even practice for the choir. Practice for you.
  • Practice because like so many things in life that we put off, once you get going it is pretty darn fun.
  • Practice because it will increase not only your confidence while singing, but your overall opinion of yourself.
  • Practice because however egotistical it may sound, it is pretty cool when other choir members in your section look to you for the notes and feel they can depend on you.
  • Practice because the sooner you learn the notes the sooner you can work on all the other stuff your Director is talking about: dynamics, phrasing, diction, etc.
  • Practice because you will enjoy singing even more than you do now.
