SeventhsThe names of intervals and the names of chords use the same terms (more or less), so there are times when you have to remember to differentiate between chord names, interval names and scale degree names. Remember:
As mentioned in Lesson 8, subtracting one half-step converts a major interval into a minor interval and that is true with the seventh. Because the relationship from C to B is the same as from the first to seventh degree in a Major Scale we call that interval a Major Seventh. ![]() When we lower the seventh to B♭ ![]() the interval is called a minor seventh. |
