Half Step, Whole StepThe interval from any note to its nearest note is called a half step. From A to A sharp is a half-step. From E to F is a half-step. From F sharp to G is a half-step.
Looking at a piano keyboard, a half step is the distance from any key to the very next note. Sometimes from a white key to a black key; sometimes from a black key to a white key; and sometimes from a white key to a white key. The very next key! ![]() A whole step is … you guessed it! Two half steps combined makes a whole step. From A to B is a whole step. From A flat to B flat is a whole step. From B flat to C is a whole step. |
