Seven ChordHowever … a chord that contains a minor seventh interval is not thereby called a minor seven chord! Remember that when naming chords, "minor" only refers to the third. So to indicate that the seventh has been lowered, the chord symbol changes from Gmaj7 to G7. Since there is no "m" in G7 we know that the third is a Major Third. Since there is no "maj" in front of the 7 we know that it is (the interval) a minor seventh. So we must have 1 3 5 ♭7 G7![]() (Remembering that the seventh degree in a G scale is F♯). This chord with the Major Third and the minor seventh is called a Seven Chord.
