Fifth of the chord

So far we have not addressed the fifth of the chord; we have assumed that it will be seven half-steps above the root of the chord, and gone about our merry way.

Just as "m" only refers to the third of a chord and "maj" only refers to the seventh of a chord, there are two symbols that refer to the fifth of the chord. Let us return to triads.

A

To transform a Major Chord A_Major_chord

Am

into a minor chord a_minor_chord we lower the third.

A𝇈

If we lower the fifth as well a_diminished_chord the chord we get is called diminished.
