Before we move on to parts of chords above eight, we need to look at a chord that contains an interval less than three half-steps apart: Suspension.
This is a chord spelled 1 4 5, the symbol for which is written Asus.
It does not sound restful and asks to be resolved, which is done by including 3 instead of 4.
